Now Longer Days (I Cor. 13:13)
As shortest day slips silently away,
And winter equinox nods by once more,
The feel of longer days with strengthening sun
Brings faith, and hope, and love, here as before.Paul said it best – when all is said and done,
These three remain that we might carry on –
That deep beneath the ugliness of loss,
Affirmed we are that life is more than “gone”.That when in shadowed harshness of a loss,
Such faith is dimmed, there springs up in our breast
A hope which would be falsehood to deny;
That God has so much more than “laid to rest”.But even hope dims with the setting sun
Some nights, as time drags on through passing years;
Then comes God’s greatest gift – His gift of love,
Which carries us through loneliest of tears.It’s strange how God delivers love His way –
A word; a gesture; visits from our kin;
Some call it just “coincidence” and laugh;
But even through such mirth new life begins.We cannot hope to fill the void he leaves;
How can we? All those years with him you walked;
But maybe as the months of grief roll by,
You’ll feel his presence when with friends you’ve talked.We feel the pain of loss when friends are close,
Especially when as one we have become;
But as the days get longer towards the spring,
Some sense here and hereafter are as one.navigation
