Two Buccaneers

It came about one Sabbath day,
Two Buccaneers came out to play;
“We thought about the business life,
For us, some aspects just weren’t right –

“As we’d much rather go and play
Than be so somber every day,
We talked and thought a year or two,
What game we’d rather play with you.

“Aha! Said one – play Buccaneers –
’Neath Jolly Roger stow our gear,
And brave this global seven seas;
Bring home the loot; our people please.

For folks would rather play like us
Than be so stuffy, somber, fuss
With silliness, when we can be
The Buccaneers on seven seas.”

When they stood back, it had a ring
Of fun together – they could bring
Themselves to work – in irony –
Of righteous-based prosperity.

Instead of going ’cross the line,
And to the ways of world resign,
Spoof out each day, as pirates seem
While rising ’bove the mean and mean.

One half of shop the wharf would be;
The other half quite blue – the sea –
One ship or other at the dock,
Each, center of inventive talk.

Behind it all on forecastle raised,
The pirate captain struts his days,
With mate, and purser (motley crew)
Designing trips on ocean blue.

The uniforms? From history –
Outlandish, friendly as can be;
“For every task which must be done
Let’s have an element of fun” –

As Mary Poppins said one time;
Be done with this, let’s cross this line,
Not spend a harried business day
But Buccaneer – in joyful play.

The other half? Why pier of course –
Our public face, to reinforce
Our local pirate ship – to feed
It’s motley crew with all its needs –

To sail again, bring back the loot;
Not all can sail, on oceans scoot,
So let them in their tasks engage –
Of ruckus life write steady page.

And when each voyage runs its course,
Right of refusal (first) – resource
No longer needed – to disperse;
New trips supply; and tasks rehearse.

A pirate school perhaps we’ll make –
In pirate life few now partake,
So skills are lost, not taught in school
So we’ll equip, empower, en-tool.

Like, how ’bout “A. T. Book Works Inc.”
As base for pirate ship – not sink
A lot of cash in foolish stuff,
But run the shop to make enough –

From books created (print as well),
A stable base so folks can tell
There’s someone home when pirates sail –
A place, returned, to spin their tale.

Six hundred bucks to have some fun,
Plus one or two to phone-lines run,
And Internet, and all that jazz
A pirate operation has.

So, Cap’n, what you say to that
Result of satisfaction’s cat?
Two years of work to set things right –
A pirate ship – and day that’s bright!

For Phoenix bird will rise again,
It’s lessons drawn from Spanish Main;
Next time, and time, and time again,
We’ll rise from ashes, smoke, and flame.
