How Many Wives?

So in the end I have to ask right out,
“How many wives it takes to melt all doubt,
And leave us wise as Solomon – they say
Was wisest, richest, man in former day?”

Seven hundred wives he had to make him wise,
And dress them in the morning – no disguise,
But royal robes to dazzle and impress,
Seven hundred wives to dress him for success.

For Solomon asked God for wisdom’s ways;
God sent him wives to guide him all his days,
And with each wife a mother – there’s the key
To wisdom – least that’s how it seems to me.

But in a letter Paul rejects that thought –
One wife for leaders – that is how one ought
To know if one is fit to rule the roost –
No seven hundred wives to turbo boost –

For if an elder had advantage such
He’d be way out ahead, quite out of touch
With hoi polloi, the rabble in the pews,
Who struggle (not as wise) to hear good news.

Besides, with pulpits open to the chicks,
Seven hundred hubbies wouldn’t be the fix
To fix the wisdom lacking in the girls –
For men are not as wise as those curls.
