The Pruning Effect

It’s one thing if our world shrinks down from cancer’s growing mess,
Another if involvements shrink – and that I must confess
Is harder now for me to grasp, not like in cancer’s day,
For then the world and all its parts to distance slipped away.

But cutting back as life goes on, and focus names its price,
Is more like pruning apple trees – results are very nice –
For apples are much bigger when the tree has less to do,
But world for given Apple tree’s the same – the next day too.

Just like when using Photoshop – there’s tools which act like that –
“Effect is global” states the help, “effect within’s the act”;
The “pointing tools” for instance shift the focus of “effect”,
Selecting proper arrow shifts the scope which you elect.

“Augmented text” demands of me a pruning of my acts;
I see why it confusing was – I had confused those facts:
My world’s the same – it chugs along – but focus now begins;
Perspective for me changes, now results can shift to wins.

Effect of funnel through our lives is like this change for me –
Concentric rings, each smaller than the last now come to be;
So overall in sixty years I’ve thirty rings or so,
Which shrink down, like a funnel – doing less as on I go.

But in behind my acts today momentum’s to be found,
For all the weight of yesterday bears down on all around;
And that resource, like apple trees, whose roots have stored up food,
Now presses into smaller tasks – result? The fruits improved.

The hungry world is looking for our fruit of quality;
Big apples from the pruning hook is how they’ll come to be;
In “less” is “more” – like Photoshop that shrinks a part within;
In larger constant picture frame, perspective shift begins.

Ach! Now I see what Jesus meant in treasure-hunter yarns –
They sold the things they had on hand – their houses, tools and farms,
And focused on some treasure found, so all this energy
Could shift to market one good thing, increased return to see.

Pearl of great price, one sought for years, or treasure stumbled on,
It matters not the way it’s found, what matters is the dawn
Of each new day – the choice we make – lose all by staying large,
Or prune right back to focus on one thing – although it’s hard.

“With joy” Christ said, “the man went out and focused everything
On one small part of what he did, increased return to bring;
The joy’s the point for me because in one sense that’s the way
I feel as now I’m focused with my pointing tool today –

I thought the rest of life would shrink as I pruned actions back,
But it remained as large as life as I pursued that tack;
That was confusing me but now I get it, it’s okay
To focus, or go broad – two tools – assist us on our way.
