Ignore Redundancy (Fawcett #15) (Matthew 13:52)
Wedding time is symbol time, tradition has a heyday;
“Old and new”, and “borrowed-blue” bedecks the bride the old way;
When you look more closely, asking ’bout that rhyming couplet,
Insight can be gained, and there can be no doubt about it.“Not ‘old or new’, but old and new, speaks to uncertain ventures;
Marriage, just like warfare, has been around for many centuries;
Lots is known, folks get prepared, but change for both is certain,
Old and new (redundancy) avoids a final curtain.“Fighting Joe” in Civil War adopted two improvements;
Made a plan, pumped up his troops, checked out the southern movements;
But he failed to factor in that glitches come with newness,
So if you take the old along, foe will not dust your britches.Big balloons to get up high are great for watching movements;
Then some guy showed telegraph could use a few improvements;
Wind got up, balloon came down, new telegraph was broken,
Brilliant plan and better troops ignored advice when spoken –All conspired to bring defeat – redundancy was absent;
Old could not be slotted in to crisis in the present;
Changing tools are part of life, but glitches are expected –
Overlap the old and new so wisdom is respected.Jesus said as much one day in speaking to the leaders –
“Old and new both have a place for those who are the feeders;
Don’t just go for old or new when working in your parish,
Overlap and you’ll succeed if old and new you cherish.navigation
