God’s Audio-Visual
How does God use the media to portion out His power?
How does He pour out great resource to help us in the hour
Of need which comes upon us with the cycles of the clock,
And challenges initiative as we begin our walk?We do not think of life this way – to us we seem like God;
But doing that requires two things without which would be odd –
(That’s power and cash, which God may have abundantly of course,
But we must suck from those around – both power and resource).To God it’s easy to be God, for He can start right now,
Distributing His power and cash – not us, we need somehow
To draw in both – like breathing air – suck in before we blow –
But He has infinite resource and power which He can show.So we don’t think like God can think (use media to give
Out power and resource to man to help His people live);
We want to use the media to suck up power and cash,
So we can pour out both of them – fulfill what others ask.Not all of them, just those who help us move along our way;
The others? Look out for themselves and live from day to day;
It’s “dog eat dog”, and “jungle law”, “survival of the fit” –
So if they can’t suck up some power and cash, I guess that’s it.Too bad for them – it’s media that takes the things they own,
And passes them to those of us who harvest where we’ve sown;
For ads proclaim the next new toy or tool we need to live,
If we’re to pull resource and power – suck in so we can give.So how does God use media to portion out resource?
Does He empower folks each day to get back on their horse?
Does He pour concepts in their minds which lead across the stream
Like stepping stones where they can step, move on from where they’ve been?Does He use words and Word to share the concepts which He held,
Back ’fore that first creation week, before His eyes beheld
His universe and said, “That’s good!” Then He invited us
To walk with Him, and talk with Him, avoiding all this fuss?We said we’d rather live our lives alone – do life our way;
He warned us that was going to hurt – upon that road there lay
A thousand 'dangers, toils, and snares' – His heart ached as we walked,
Away from all the best in life – as doors were closed and locked.God uses media today just as in days of yore,
For people are His medium – let others know the score;
They walk the talk; and talk the walk; deep feelings each express;
And mix them with the truth they’ve learned as they clean up the mess.We think we’re smart, we make a world that’s hard to tell from real –
“It’s virtual” we now proclaim, show how folks kill and steal;
How others lie, and cheat, and screw around on those they love;
And most of all how life works best for those who push and shove.Five thousand satellites proclaimed this lifestyle round the globe,
(That’s back in 1985, who knows what skies now hold
Of channel-relays for our trash – for media is used
By mankind to take in its breath from what it has abused).“Believe in God? That’s for the weak, we’re smarter here today;
Just look at all we’ve figured out the scientific way;
Skip all that talk of love and gifts of grace from God – that’s trash;
Life gives to you what you can seize from it until at last –“We die, like dogs and cats – that’s it – emotion’s just the purr
Expressing how we feel when fed and stroked like kittens’ fur;
The media is just the bread and circuses of Rome –
Give that to folks, they’ll play along, and call this good life’s home.”God calls us to be media, be real amidst the mess;
Proclaim a better way of life, and turn from all the rest;
He says, “Start now, I’ll grace you to a life beyond your dreams,
For all the rest is virtual – ersatz – not what it seems.“Sure, write your books, augment your text, and use your doctored pix,
But in the end it’s media, so just remember this –
Talk’s cheap as real or virtual, what counts is what you do;
You’re clay that thinks, and walks, and talks – expressions known as you.“But by yourself you’re like a hand, an eye, an ear, or nose,
Your excellence is useless ’till it with the body goes
About its business – even that is problematic too,
Until infused with Spirit of the One who thought up you.navigation
