What Is This Place?

What is this place all upside down?
What is it when he’s not around?
A residential writer – what
Is that – I sort of get it – but –

Your prices – they’re a joke all ’round,
For Cheaper Cheeper jokes abound –
“Won’t be there in a year”, one said,
“So follow me – he’s good as dead”.

Well, maybe – but they miss the point –
Two symbols on our sign anoint
Our efforts with defining praise –
“Cheap copies”, and “Each Phoenix raise”.

Cheap copies keeps the folks in touch;
In one way it’s a little much,
But it affords a thinking space
As he and we each find our place.

Embodiment of corporate dreams;
A place of hope – not what it seems –
Just look at life that pours through here,
As artists find their way made clear.

Each week is by one letter brought –
By illustrative picture taught,
With caption putting twist on life,
As we share weekly-thought that’s bright.

A gasp of sucked-in-air one week
Was all it took – though sign is cheap,
The content’s not – I raise for you
A chance for passers-by to view –

Their lives interpreted, re-framed;
Their points-of-view no more the same;
A subtle shift, a twisted line,
A chuckle at some joke sublime –

That’s how I put my crop in here,
Sustain his ministry, and clear
Away the rubble from the site
Of where we tried to build things right.

Construction sites quite messy are,
Yet in this site we’ve come quite far
Along the road – “prosperity
With righteousness – if it can be?”
