How To Lose A Battle – Take The Bait (Fawcett #11) (Matt.28:18-20; Mark 16:14-20; Lk. 24:7-8; 44-53; John 18:36-38; Acts 1:1-11)

When Bony went to Austerlitz to fight,
He pushed his troops hard, marched them day and night;
They ate their way like locusts on the land;
Trafalgar past, he had to take a stand.

So he moved fast, reducing odds against
His Army’s numbers – Army picture paints
A raging battle but behind the fight,
A trap was set and sprung – it worked just right.

He did not start out standing on the hill;
He let it go, in center waited – still;
His left he matched his best against their best;
And on his right (his trap) stood all the rest.

They took the bait and streamed down from their hill
To smash the weaker side, but Bony still
Was watching ’till they all were on his right,
Then took the center hill without a fight.

Then, wheeling in behind he pinned their troops
Against a swamp – part frozen, so their boots
Broke through the ice to kill the ones that fled;
The rest broke up, surrendered, or were dead.

So flanking moves should not absorb your all;
Don’t leave your center weak or you may fall
When they surround you, crush you in your place,
And leave you run right down as in this case.

Self-confidence is great, but don’t be blind;
Just look around and read the other’s mind;
If it’s too good, it likely is, so ask,
“If I do this, what then will be my task?”

One view of Christ – the devil took the bait –
He thought he’d stop Him, did not hesitate
To take Him, but got ashes in his hand –
Christ rose – Apostles streamed across the land.
