Psalm Eight

Psalm Thirty-Four, verse three, it states,
“O magnify the Lord – and make
A joyful sound most worshipful,
To God who’s been so bountiful”.

But it’s Psalm Eight that speaks to me
Of what this means – for what we see
Is far less rich than what is real;
It’s challenge holds a deep appeal –

To me to stop and look around;
To pay attention to the sounds
Of baby’s laughter; children’s cries
Of sheer delight – see shining eyes.

O Lord, as we head out this week,
Take up our tasks – help us to see
Your presence in this splendored world,
And magnify the hands which hold –

Us in Your loving care this week;
Though days for us be bittersweet,
Help us to rest within Your care –
And let Your healing grace repair –

Our broken hearts; our spirits crushed;
Our frazzled nerves where we’ve felt rushed;
Let laughing lives within our space,
Propel us forth on wings of grace.
