Fear (Fawcett, #1) (Joshua 1:6-9; Psalm 11; Eccl. 9:11-12)
When Alexander headed east,
Attacking Persia who had pieced
A forced together to repel,
Great Alex made out very well.Outnumbered, less equipped, he met
King Darius there on a steppe
Prepared and leveled for the fight –
Then rested up four days and nights.King Darius did not attack;
Let Alexander rest, and that
Was foolish – kept men up all night
In case the Greeks approached to fight.But Alex let his men look ’round,
Then get some sleep there on the ground;
Set up a plan ingenious,
To go for head – King Darius.He knew (they’d fought the year before),
King Darius was scared, so bore
A hole in center of his ranks,
By sucking troops to either flank.He kept his best to chase the King,
And waited for the line to thin;
Then pushed right through (they turned and fled),
So Persia was no longer led.Now Joshua courageous was;
God said to him – “be strong, because
A man of courage you will be
If you will follow up my lead”.For God-plus-one, we often see,
Makes up a clear majority;
“Fear not”, rings out in Scripture clear,
For all of us must face some fear.I love the words – eleventh Psalm –
Where King’s outnumbered; all’s gone wrong;
But he asks messenger, “Who me?
Like little birdie, shall I flee?!“Why, no, I’ll stay and hold my ground –
God’s on my side – just look around –
For like sirocco-wind that’s hot,
Attackers now will meet our God.”“The battle is not to the strong”
Rhymed proverbist, King Solomon;
We see in Darius quite clear,
Example of such loss – from fear.navigation
