(Field) Command (Sun Tzu 1:6) (Matthew 7:15-23)

Commanders in the field of war,
Have virtues soldiers there adore;
For leaders of the troops are key
To winning – gaining victory.

Five aspects of field general:
The first intelligence – as well
As wisdom – plugging in the truth,
Not just a canon on the loose.

The second is sincerity –
Exuding credibility;
Trustworthiness is at the root,
From brim of hat to sole of boot.

The third a keen benevolence –
Not wishy-washy, on the fence,
But of a deep humanity,
Which tempers justice patiently.

The fourth his courage, plain enough
You say; that person must be tough –
Not just on soldiers in the field,
But to his fears he must not yield.

The fifth is strictness – sternness felt
Throughout the ranks, when deeds are dealt
With, to ensure the war is won;
That justice from commander comes.

So, wisdom, trust, humanity,
A courage fit to meet the need,
With discipline to push on through
And do the work that armies do –

Are all required as character,
For they raise up – in others stir
A like response throughout the ranks;
Top-down it flows – the base of thanks.

What of your leaders, what of theirs?
Who needs to change, upgrade, repair?
This issue is not quick to fix
Like weather, land, who’s got the mix?

Like Jesus said, a mighty oak
Starts out as seed among the folk,
But over time grows straight and tall,
Providing home for one and all.

So, weigh your leaders – evil one?
Has he the wisdom of The One?
Trustworthy? Deep humanity?
Or courage? Strict with those he leads?

Except perhaps for last on list,
I’d say no way – would be remiss
If I replied he was a breeze
To beat – except upon one’s knees.

For evil one, how e’er he comes,
Can trouble make for mother’s sons
Who battle under Jesus’ flag;
So, “be en-guard” lest toe be tagged.
