The Ebb And Flow Beneath The Bridge (I Cor. 13:13)
Things got nasty once or twice;
Folks weren’t acting very nice;
Then they said, “Hey, go from here,
Guys like you we don’t want near”.That left those who see by faith,
Though the outside’s now not safe;
These folks see beneath, and say,
“I can see it plain as day”.But things just get worse and worse;
Many leave, shift to reverse –
“I don’t see beneath, today,
So I’ll just be on my way”.Left are those who feel such hope
Springing up with just and joke;
“Be a liar if denied
Presence of this hope inside”.Still the path descends to hell;
Hopeful ones no more can tell
Of the hope that dwells inside,
So they say, “I’m gone – goodbye”.When they’re gone sometimes there’s one;
Outside life is not much fun;
Nor is life seen underneath –
Gone for all is Hope’s belief.But this person knows one thing –
“Love is where the angels sing;
‘This and that’ gives God some room;
Miracles down here come soon –“Or they don’t – that’s not the point;
Here is where Christ did appoint
Me to be – right here, right now –
Doing what’s required – somehow.”Often that’s the end of things;
Time elapses, nothing brings
To the scene relief at all;
Nonetheless, love heeds the call.Then it happens – love prevails;
Works of Power never fail
To make ways where seemed no way;
Comes the dawn – a better day.Hopeful ones see life arise;
They come around and add their lives
To the task at hand each day –
Faster now there comes a way.Then the folks who see beneath
Surface mess with faith’s belief,
Come around, bring extra hands –
Work is shared by all who can.Then things break through – all is swell;
Others come when things go well;
You might overhear a quip,
“How did things get good like this?”Simple – love is like a bridge
Truth can travel – ridge to ridge,
Over swampland, rivers, lakes –
Bridging work is what it takes –Someone to connect the space;
Close the gap; tough slogging make;
’Till the truth between two states
Can connect – one picture make.Love is not just yummy fuzz;
Love like this is tough, because
Greater love has none than this –
“Drop your life, give heaven’s kiss”.navigation
