To Market, To Market...
“To market, to market, to buy a fat pig,
Home again, home again, jiggedy-jig”;
So we recited as children each night –
Soothing the couplets – assured all was right.For that is how business supplies every need –
The farmers raise piglets to size which will please,
Then sell them to people to use as they wish –
To use them to breed or to serve on a dish.But life is more complex these days when a thought,
Is sold for a fortune – confusing what’s bought;
As patents and copyright lock down the rights
To life on this planet, and set up the fights.Take text-books for students – they’re priced out of sight
For nothing but thought fancied-up to look right,
When all of the info is free on the net –
A system for learning absurd as one gets.I don’t have the focus to play by these rules;
I look at the system and say, “They are fools
To lock down their thinking in such a strange way,
And force kids to change every word to now say:“To market to market to buy a fresh thought,
Home again home again trottity-trot;
I’d help you to live out your days with great zest,
But patents restrict me from sharing God’s best”.navigation
