Spiritual Revival

There was this Catholic girl I knew who came from my home town,
She said her prayers each morning when her feet first hit the ground
“Down on my knees”, she said to me, quite matter-fact’ly-like;
Which struck me as quite moving – few assume that is all right.

A challenge that – quite different, though as single at the time
She followed RC teaching – “Start your day with God in mind;
Go in your room and close the door, just focus on your God;
As Jesus said, reward is there, and there it won’t look odd”.

One change it brings – “Our Father” now includes us and our spouse;
While ‘all alone’ is good, this draws together from our house
Two lives now one, as we pour out our hearts in morning prayer;
And says to self, and spouse, and God, “Concerns for life we share”.

That does not mean your partner has to join you on your knees,
For two are one regardless; share with God your daily needs,
And you will find your life each day filled with a Spirit new –
Now quietly God has some room your marriage to renew.
