Passing The Peace

First half was nice, as concerts go,
But after break, back in our row
The magic came, for me, at least,
As music took that northern beat.

I soon recalled that music man
Up north – our billet – said, “I can
Again hear that one extra beat
In music here, in kids I teach.

“It is not present outside here,
But in these students it appears;
I view it as a northern beat;
In it this culture’s pulse I meet.”

Both for myself and for my wife,
Past scenes, and people from our life
Up north, wove through their several songs –
With homesickness – for my heart longs –

For days when friendships filled our life;
Direction clear, with family life;
As we embarked on our careers –
These northern pulses filled our ears –

And gospel, as we knew it then –
Nativity – God’s gift to men
And women – Mary, and the Child,
With Joseph – scenic beauty mild –

Before life complicated got;
Before I found the piece I sought
Through questing years, heartbreaking pain –
“Take no offense”, I heard again.

“Stu do not take that part with you,
As changing scenes come into view;
You’ll be okay – just let it go –
The peace of Christ now come to know.

Thanks Brenda.
