Same Words, New Meaning (Romans 8 – Generally)

I find I hear these words anew,
As I return in last review;
As study time draws to an end,
Fresh meanings with the old now blend.

For part-way through this study-time
My job was done, assignment mine
Wrapped up, I found myself set free
To choose some new activity.

And so I have (not messing ’round,
Good days for me at front are found
To be, for as the years pass on
My strength and health might soon be gone).

I said, “I’d like to do that task –
Play “Apostolic” role at last
Of life – ‘For, having gone’ You said,
‘Disciple those to whom you’re led ’.”

So, having gone these months with You
To help discover what to do
In case of our perceiver-types
And tried to help him get it right –

I’d like to do one trip at least –
Try out the words You gave in peace
’Fore You ascended from this place;
I’d really like to do this case –

Of business – what a ruckus blast –
To play a part in that at last
And see what good we all can do
As we cross borders here with You.

Your word, “Disciple” didn’t say
“You have to” – it was more, “A way
You could approach that task if stuck,
Like on some sandbar in the muck.

“Baptize and teach those wanting help,
Like pyramid – pursuing wealth
Is well and good, and lots of fun;
Stay open while those trails you run.”

So Lord, that’s what I’d like to do,
As my response – do life with You,
As we wrap up these final years
Apostle-like, not bound by fears.

For we are free – not slaves of old,
Where we were bound, and worked as told
By bosses who coerced by fear;
I like to walk Your peace out here.

Lord, what I hear – “Eight hours a day
Will lubricate your task and way;
Photography – have fun; kick back;
Let Me provide the things you lack.

And just enjoy the work you do;
Engage with others – like a school
Where you can grasp with firmness clear,
The beauty of this life ’round here.”

Thanks, Lord.
