The Rod That Bloomed And Blossomed (Numbers 17:5,10)

So quiet-like he took his place and spoke;
It different was – this time there was no joke,
Or nervousness; like somehow being there
Was central to his core – he seemed aware –

Of nothing but his Lord, His word, His task;
And people who had come with shattered past;
He spoke his heart – same words; same heart; same man;
But different now, as only broken can.

It seems somehow that story of the Ark,
Made way for God to permeate his heart;
Encourage him to let it all go by;
To “take and eat”; be not afraid to die –

To self – to let it go at last to God;
To give; and not to seize, here on this sod,
His Ministry of life – of Christ through him;
So slowly Spirit’s work could then begin.

“The fruit”, he said in quietness and truth,
“Grows in our lives – so enter that pursuit;
Stop chasing things, or status, place, or form;
Be open, let God set for you new norms.

“Disciple be – your own at least, in God;
Self yield to Him – I know, it seems quite odd –
Let Spirit rule your life, its fruit produce –
‘Self-discipl-ine’ where once all things were loose.

“Your part? To practice daily what He says;
Change deep within a firm foundation lays;
Then over time – first shoot, then ear, then fruit –
External life is changed, a painful route.”

And so, in hour he had, he shared his heart;
Two years of growth where he had done his part
Of letting go, and letting blossoms, fruit,
Emerge on rod laid down without pursuit.

O Lord, I thank You for Your life within
His life and work – beyond release from sin,
And all the wonders of a life made free,
That through him now might flow Your ministry.

Thanks.
