“Third Road To Wisdom – C – Regret” [Reflections on Louise Penny Inspector Gimache books, Passim]

Regret’s a common part of life –
That’s pain we feel on darkest night,
When we’ve an error made; as well
As found a problem’s caused – that’s hell!

As kids crossed ice too thin to hold
Them up, despite bravado bold,
Regret might stop them where they are –
But what to do, they’ve come this far?

“Queh-keen!” Calls out from former shore –
“Turn ’round, you!” – “Don’t take one step more!”
You turn, you’re still as far from land,
But next step moves you towards the sand.

“Regret” – (I’m sorry’s for myself);
“I’m sorry” said, holds social wealth –
It’s road to wisdom, Penny states,
Though hard to say, it blockage breaks.

Admitting errors is quite hard
For humankind, by inch, or yard;
But when the group mistaken is,
It’s tough to go where wisdom lives.

When social cost exceeds our store
Of brownie-points, and group abhors
Correction, or adjusted stance,
Obstructions rise to block advance.

So how might one corrections make?
First, shift inside, new thought-forms take;
Then let your mind new roads engage –
“Catch up with self”, God said to Abe.

For often, thought precedes our acts;
When cost is high, or new the facts,
It costs to say, “I’m sorry now” –
“To cross the man, folks won’t allow.”

Thanks Holy Spirit for this.
