“How Big’s Today?” (Island in the Sea Series)

“One day” is all we’re s’posed to live,
The Good Book says – life’s like a sieve –
With holes and screens to sift things out,
Retaining what we then toss out.

Or, in reverse, it holds the grain –
As weeds drop through the best remains,
While smaller sizes not for us
Collect below, reducing fuss.

So as this view applies to time,
To screen “today” – which filter’s mine?
A day, a week – a month as well,
A quarter, season, “third” can tell –

Quite different things as we project
To bigger chunks – “what’s coming next,
But starts today?” Or “is in play
When we arrive on opening day?”

Ah! Screening “time” shows what’s “today”
In terms which now come into play,
With implications for the rest –
But now is where we do our best.

So several screens sit side-by-side,
Pertaining to our current ride –
This “moment”, “morning”, “daily hour”,
Is filled with the Spirit’s patient power –

As it applies to different scales,
So bide in Him – that cannot fail
To touch some part we might not see,
Here on this island in the sea.

Okay, Holy Spirit, thanks for that.
