“Dis-Illusioned” [Cree+01 series]

I lost my innocence tonight –
I saw that “Y” was viewed as “Right”
By “N”, and Oji-Cree I knew,
Which, in the face of fiction flew.

It was at that point, Smiling Cat
Was seen for real, and knowing that
Set all the mythos on its head,
Before the Scriptures had been read.

“We all look down on someone, lad.”
That guy had said – not sad or glad,
Just matter-of-a-fact he was;
Said whom for them – did that because –

We’d talked about my racist views –
“Surprise to me, I’m telling you!”
I had replied to query, then,
He laughed, and let the matter end.

“We cannot help how we’ve been raised,
But that’s not where the matter stays –
Go put fresh ending on your yarn,
And move along – you meant no harm.”

So there it sits – freed to be me –
“Don’t leave it there, but let it be
First day, along a journey – freed
To outgrow past, respond to need.

“For love (that’s caring for the folks),
Is greatly needed – let the jokes
Fall on your head; let love flow out –
Such brokenness, as perfumed doubt –

That you are somehow cut above
The other folks, midst push and shove –
It’s way the world is working still –
Step onto pinwheel’s pin – be still.

Thanks Lord for this.
