Integrated Disciplines Approaches to Local Economic Development
As pointed out on the intro page to this section, an integrated theory of community economic development which takes into account the economic as well as the sociological and political realities of the community does not exist at this time. There are just too many contradictions implicit in each of the three disciplines. The economic types ignore the social imperatives; the social types ignore the economic imperatives, and the political front is a game stacked in favor of whichever group manages to gain control of he power at the time.
Actually, it does all come together, but in order for that to happen there has to be two more factors added in, media and religion. Put the three labels from the above disciplines plus these new two labels on five balloons and you have the issue I ran into in our media based community development project, the issue of The five balloons.
Working out the implications of such a model is what the "faith based community economic development" approach could be about if it chose to do so.
