Technological Change Based Approaches to Local Economic Development
One very accessible way to improve the local economy lies in the matter of improving the way technological change happens in our homes, offices and businesses. Technological innovation is touted as being the great savior for our economies, but often the arrival of new technology, if it is not well handled, can leave a firm of office or community in worse shape than before, with the new technology being sadly underutilized.I wonder if this is not an area where there needs to be a broad based approach to upgrading the understanding of the processes of technological integration so that such changes are dealt with in a much more efficient and effective manner. There is such good information available now on the change process, that a general upgrading of this understanding would increase the odds of any and all changes being better implemented. If a region or district undertook to do such a project with focus on specific transitions taking place in firms and homes, I wonder what the overall impact would be for that local economy, say in ten years. A bit of tide-raising to raise all the boats so to speak.
