Entry Barrier Based Approaches to Entrepreneurship in Local Economic Development
One approach to local economic development, which might be addressed in Western Manitoba, is the matter of support to entrepreneurs through the removal or reduction of barriers. There is one barrier, which might prove more valuable to remove than any of the others, and that is the barrier, which traps inappropriate people in such an activity. Such blocked mobility is an unfortunate reality, and can sometimes be addressed through education and training programs dealt with elsewhere on this site.
It would be interesting to know the levels of job satisfaction in the Westman area both in small business and in outside employment. Perhaps a survey of such information would suggest some interesting options towards economic development.
Other barriers to entrepreneurial activity are those which apply to :
- entry such as lack of capital, mentoring, market research etc.
- survival such as excessive red tape, insufficient sales help.
- growth such as insufficient help making the transition, or insufficient growth funding.
