Customized Training to Help Develop the Local Economy
Custom made training programs, often put on by Community Colleges at the request of specific firms in the service area, are somewhat narrower in scope than the general training program.
They serve to upgrade skills for existing workers, and thereby help in retaining firms in an economic region. If these firms were to migrate out in search of better trained staff, a domino effect could take place within the region, resulting in the overall decline in economic activity in the region.
These contractual services for custom-made training are often conducted through a sub-departments or an off-campus "business development centers". Some courses are also delivered on the business site.
In Manitoba, Keewatin Community College serves the Northern part of the province through its Extension Division. Red River Community College provides a similar service to the Capital Region through its "Market Driven Training". The South West part of the province is served in this way through Assiniboine Community College's "Continuing Education"
