High School Vocational Programs and Local Economic Development
One aproach to Local Economic Development that has emerged over the years is the establishment of a variety of Vocational programs in the High Schools. These programs give a basic level of training for students who will be moving directly into the workforce.
In Manitoba, Senior Years Technical education includes both an apprenticeship option and a co-operative vocational education option.
The main center for Vocational Training in the Westman area is Crocus Plains Regional School with its eleven programs.
High School Vocational programs assist in the development of a regional economy by giving a solid technical and business training to those not continuing on to post secondary education, better preparing them for a productive work life. Being closely linked to local businesses increases the chance that such students will form stable work relationships in the business community.
