Training for New Technology and Local Economic Development
When Companies purchase new Technology, there is often a need for upgrade training for existing or new staff. An example of this is in the computer software sector. As new versions tumble out of production houses at ever increasing rates, and old companies with their products fade away or merge, end-users are left with a constant need for staff re-training.
Government economic development programs often provide funds for such upgrade training within companies, so as to keep them competitive, and therefore viable as economic units in the region.
Although Education and training are a Provincial responsibility in Canada, the Federal Government's Human Resources Development Canada is also very much involved in the above sort of training, usually on a cost-shared basis.
HRDC also undertakes a host of other economic development initiatives all of which center around the development and release of human potential.
