“A Cultural Boundedness” [Series of Reflections on David du Chemin’s Book The Soul Of The Camera - pp. 151-161]
Apostle-types with camera in hand,
As they jump boundaries, then decode each land,
Have challenges of two types – “What to say?”
And “How to say it in perceptive way?”Third-culture-kids, growth industry these days,
Give added burden crafting what to say;
“Can’t please them all” – but Facebook links them up
With minds alike, who just might like your stuff.This chapter opens up a photo-world
I had not seen, for in this bitter world,
My mind was elsewhere – heart, and soul, with strength;
Now I can see this road with added length.So Lord, that takes me back to Sandy’s years
Before all this – the shattered hopes, and fears
Within the fray – at Sandy’s river-place –
“Get in or out” – gave photo-world Your space.“So there you are, friend Stu, pick camera up,
And shoot your wad, for there is time enough
For you to do this work – Venn circles three –
And this is one – the other two you’ll see.”Thanks Lord for this.
