“Avoid The Cults” [Series of Reflections on David du Chemin’s Book The Soul Of The Camera - pp. 254-65]

The camera cults proliferate,
As Internet keeps up to date
Remotest workers on the globe
With gossip, fashion’s current load.

Just get informed and spurred to task;
Get down to work, let patience ask,
“How could I that idea share
With current skill applied right there?”

For skill takes time to grow into –
Ten thousand hours of win and lose;
Five years, full time, that is of course –
Two-K per year up on your horse.

I love his Cassels quote – he said,
“I think I’m making progress” – lead
Him to persist up spiral stairs;
For mastery is lodged up there.

Lord, thanks for this insightful tome,
From author to my studied home;
I see such parallels elsewhere
In language, poetry, prepared –

For many diverse folks in life;
I hear Your words – to harness strife,
And get down to whatever task
Leads on to mastery, as asked.

Thanks Lord for this.
