“What It Takes” [Series of Reflections on David du Chemin’s Book The Soul Of The Camera - pp. 66-77]
Knowing subject helps a lot
As decisive moment’s caught;
Muscles twitch before they strike,
Be aware to get it right.Light and light like stars align
Composition’s passing line;
Purpose of the picture too
Combination locks undo.Knowing self, as Sun Tzu said,
Half the battle’s you’ll have read
Quite correctly, so you’ll win –
It’s your enemy within.Much is done ahead of time –
Best location; light sublime;
Iteration, edit best;
In the dust-been with the rest.People? That’s ephemeral –
Shift as quickly as a squirrel;
Landscapes – that’s more focal shift –
Shivers in the dawning mist.Thanks Lord for this.
