“Growth” [Series of Reflections on David du Chemin’s book The Soul Of The Camera - #1 pp. i-32]

In learning task, which photos need,
“Co-requisite” is “self” - indeed;
Or is it craft that is the “co-”
As we as picture-makers grow?

For growth itself needs second view,
Expanding with some world that’s new –
For in the way we iterate
Jacques’ levels rise – new pictures make.

Our photos of some hobbyhorse
Get boring – so, with new resource
Of life we’ve lived between two shots,
“About” replaces “of” (or rots).

Our questions self-reveal our gifts –
Like teaching insight – we’re remiss
If we don’t take, rework from home
Some insight-set received on loan.

For then, it’s our perspective’s take
On his or her approach – we make
Our contribution – fill those gaps
And leave our own – make viewers ask.

Then to we overlap our gifts
And content rings, with culture’s list
To left or right, or center, back –
Clear, honest, or direct it lacks?

Then like that staircase of St. John
Which circles ’round each theme we’re on,
We rise to height (or increased depth)
’Till theme for us has nothing left.

Thanks Lord for this.
