“The Principle Of New Eyes” [Series of Reflections on David du Chemin’s book The Soul Of The Camera - pp. 45-57]

For me the soul of thinking is
Encouragement – perception’s biz
Is mix of brain and eye, which sees
Together patterns which I seize –

With camera to mix my craft
With concept, principles – when asked,
I’d say, “A how-to kind of guy
I am, who lives twixt earth and sky”.

I live on Kingdom-layer now;
Perspective changed; I don’t know how
So much as I was won’t to think –
But ‘Why?’ Transports me to the brink –

Of magic at magician’s hand;
As awe explodes, I under-stand
Far less than former surety;
Delight explodes with joy in me.

For principles do not spring up,
But come when others speak some tough
Perception gained – “experience”,
Arising from some circumstance.

It’s often in the social swirl
Of men and women, boys and girls,
That such eruptive thought hits home –
Then off to capture it I roam.

(Or simply swing my camera up
If it’s still present – such the luck!
I now can grab it, save a trip,
To seek some instances of it.

So “Gifts” to me are central now –
“Awareness” there can show me how
To do my life as me, yet gain
From other gifts, their pleasures, pain.

Lord, thank You for Your gifts to me –
Those gifts to other folks I see
Impacting lives direct from Thee,
As we encounter those set free.

And thank You for photography,
That “Wand of Wonder” given to me
As tool to use, now ramped on up
With digital – enhanced so much!

Thanks Lord for this.
