“La Contraire”
A friend of mine said, “There’s a term
We use back home, you ought to learn –
It’s “La contraire”, “Contrary one”,
Who backwards lives, which makes him fun.I’d say, “It’s white”; he says, “It’s black”;
I say “Come here”; he says “Go back”;
I say, “That’s up”; he says, “That’s down”;
My role is straight; he plays the clown.Most days life works, some days, no way;
That’s when he comes, calls me to play –
“If roads are blocked, find a new way;
Walk around the town, Jericho way.“Step back, reflect, what is my goal?
Is this a block? Where is my soul?
Should I press on? Find other ways?
Where’s God in this? – Hear what He says.“Pay me no heed when life is smooth;
Give me a call bogged down in goo;”
Contrary ones see other ways;
“Life is so short – value your days.”Thanks Lord for this.
