“Constraints” [Series of Reflections on David du Chemin’s Book The Soul Of The Camera - pp. 94-105]

Constraints are not our enemy though enemy is there;
Three circles in Venn diagrams release us when prepared
To view our situations with fresh eyes and new technique;
For limits to our movements often yield results we seek.

A single lens, fixed aperture, one aspect ratio,
Can make us find solutions far beyond the ones we know;
Our movement blocked; a loss of sight; a scratch upon our lens,
Can make us reevaluate approach, then comprehend –

Some aspect of the world around which we’d not seen before;
Some aspect of some person who can open up some door;
Some detail in what we have now which blows are little minds,
Then leaves us to pursue our path, released from former grinds.

Our skill is always rising, or can be if we are smart,
As challenges emerge each day to photographic art;
Lord, help me to stay in Your life, abide on Kingdom-layer,
That insights and performance might live out my daily prayer –

That all should hear of “Kingdom layer”, “The center point”, “The pin”;
That they should be invited to Your banquet, ushered in;
That others, as they live their lives, might feel Your tender care –
That You don’t drop Your hopes for them as they address despair.

Lord, help me on this day to be more open to Your word,
Through Scripture, prayer, activity, whatever way it’s heard;
Help me to get down off my horse, and join our human race;
Lest all of us forsake Your blessings, swamped by what we face.

Lord, grace me to abide in You up on this Kingdom-layer;
Bless all incoming dispatches arriving as on air;
For Internet, computers, all communication tools
Are here to bless our socks off, not resign us to be fools.

Thanks Lord for this.
