“I Am The Truth” (Matthew 7:24-27; John 14:1-14) [War – Sub Series Number One – Reflections on Timothy Snyder’s Book, On Tyranny – Poem #10 – Chapter 10]

Find the truth and you find God;
Finding God means finding truth;
Serving one, today sounds odd –
Loyalty is to the group.

Thinking of the group is led
By some leader self-proclaimed;
Rubbish heap is where we’re fed –
Sermon time is sadly lame.

“Truth’s the rock on which to build,
Edifice, in which to live;
Built on sand (we do it still)
Rock foundation footing gives.

Power loves the life on sand,
Eden’s choice writ large today;
Tide comes in, submerges land –
Truth’s tsunami wins the day.

Man’s been here before, of course,
Two steps forward one step back;
Just reverse what’s said with force –
Point eight-oh brings truth we lack.

“Hate my wife” (he loves her still);
I don’t drink (he drinks a lot);
This is fun” (it’s more like swill);
“School is fair” (what status bought).

Just reverse that stuff and see –
80:20 – truth in talk –
Lover who would happy be,
Drowning pain; dumb as a rock.

Animistic Shaman’s task
Is not magic he describes;
Pleasing God to get some cash;
Shake the tent so power’s ascribed.

Better case when his word’s used –
Skip what he’s not learned about;
His four points best not confused,
Though “Agenda’s” not in doubt.

He describes that motley crew –
Folks all covered in their chairs;
Like he says, there’s nothing new –
Scale it up, but best compare.

Thanks Lord for this.
