“I Was Not Ready” [War – Sub Series Number One – Reflections on Timothy Snyder’s Book, On Tyranny – Poem #12 – Chapter 12]

I was not ready for the “shun”
Put on by folks who’d just begun
To get the picture (who’s the boss);
As former friends they’d soon be lost.

Encouragement is what I did
For left and right – to tension rid,
By making up a fun-time game –
“You fricasseed? You’re not to blame!”

But former colleagues crossed the street
So they’d not catch my eye, or greet
Me, have to stop and chat a while –
Where underneath it was stench of guile.

So he says, greet all folks the same;
Some folks appreciate you came;
While others feel the sting of shame;
If not, they think you are to blame.

But that’s okay, their turn will come;
It does for most – a lot for some;
So laugh it off, and go your way,
Let paltry lives have little days.

Lord this guy says, “Stay making friends,
Thus nasty times in life you’ll mend;”
Who knows what trees from faith-seeds grow,
When you with friendships Kingdom grow.

Thanks Lord for this.
