“When One Leaf Falls”

When one leaf falls, folks pay no mind,
But with a bang folks lose their mind –
“Disaster, that” the headlines read;
Not really, though – it’s more from need –

To make a splash in Brandon-town –
The system’s fixed to put folks down –
“I’m sorry for your loss”, say friends,
As auto-crash a hope-set ends.

But when the fall is greater yet,
The impact calls attention – bet
You think the impact will endure –
It won’t, for purpose is secured.

A “Self-fulfilling prophecy”
Plays out in detail, fills one’s needs;
Or, in the case of larger splash,
Fulfills an economic task.

For “GDP” includes the wars;
“Corrections” mean the rich get more;
“The boss? Away on business, see,
Which leaves the awkwardness to me”.

The games go on – the poor get used;
Those in the middle get abused;
A mess indeed, but nothing yet –
Implosion comes – on that I’d bet.

His house is leveled, sadder end,
Bit player’s stakes just would not bend;
“He played and lost”, the bullies say –
Too bad for him” (he’s gone away).

So raising kids in fetid pond
Despair imbues – they move along;
It’s not that life’s impossible;
More, folks seem ir-response-able.

They’d rather die than lose their chance
To be on top – schoolyard romance –
Such thinking is quite fanciful,
In land God gives that’s bountiful.

Thanksgiving was the day I saw
The coup unfold, life in the raw –
Laid out before us, plain to see,
Three months before it crashed on me.

So photographing as an art
Reveals the shootist – “Play your part”,
Say clients and society;
“Comply – or you can take your leave”.

“Don’t speak the truth, reveal the score”;
“Game-player be”; “Don’t ask for more”.
“For those who see, be silent, then
We’ll throw a bone; Yule-Turkey send.

“Stu, it’s okay, much worse it gets
Though memory-loss lets you forget,
I don’t – but I don’t linger on
The trash – for Me, what’s gone is gone.

“I told old Adam, ‘Don’t go there;
A mess that is; brings on despair’;
But no, he had to try things out,
And that’s what history’s all about.”

Thanks Lord for this.
