“Where? ¿dónde? [Spanish Series] (Matt.6:32-33 Jerusalem Spanish Bible)

“Just set it there”, the lady said,
And motioned to the rock;
“I’ll drink my coffee when I’m done,
When we sit down to talk”.

I’d never thought of “Set it there”
As meaning of that phrase,
About the “¿dónde?” aspect (where),
Not “set your heart” in play.

Both meanings are quite true, of course,
But this one makes me think –
“Where have I set my heart at rest,
Like coffee one might drink?”

“The pagans set their hearts on things,
Their cups of beverage hot;
Then in the light of doing that,
From that perspective talk –

They say, “On cash we now depend,
To be our rock for cup;
We’ve set our hearts there in that place,
The “¿dónde?” where we sup”.

But Jesus had a different rock
On which to set His cup;
Encouraged us to set ours there
In faith, beyond a mere luck.

“The center-pin of pinwheel’s spin
Is rock on which to set
Your hearts, as world goes spinning ’round –
In stillness wait there yet.

“Don’t just get whirling with the spin
Of driveness that’s mad;
Engage with life from stillness-point;
In resourced-world be glad.”

Well, Lord, that word a challenge is
To me – assuring too;
For on that center-stillness-point
I get a shifted view –

My heart is set upon Thee, Lord,
Like cups on rock at camp;
Grace me to be in steadiness –
To spinning folks, Your lamp.

Thanks Lord for this.
