“The Global Mall” [Canadian economy series – international trade –A-8]

Folks buy stuff cheap and sell it dear,
It’s how trade works – so far that’s clear;
But that’s not how our trade works out –
We pedal cheap ’till all runs out –

Or furs, or forests, H2O,
Our minerals beneath the snow;
Got use for rocks? They’ll sell that too;
“Staples” it’s called – it’s what “They” do.

Who’s “They”? Why those with upper hand;
In shadow of the Yanks we stand –
Big brother’s on our block, you see;
It’s easy then – sit back and be –

The one that “push and shovers” push;
Most unemployed, sit on our tush,
Content to pedal “Our” resource;
Keep slag, manure, and sweat,, of course.

When trade-flows are all tallied up
They “Balance”, yes, but that’s all guff –
We “Sell” raw stuff, buy finished goods;
No good for kids in neighborhood.

So smart ones go to Yankee land;
Some other kids just lend a hand
In pumping gas (it’s “Service”, see?);
Can’t export that we all agree.

The “Asian Tigers” share one trait –
Yank Army base in every case;
The Yankee shadow’s reason why
They’re not so poor their children die.

That’s us – we’re “Asian Tigers” too
Exploited here by Yankee few,
And lackeys at their beck and call –
Unfair I’d say, in global Mall.

Thanks Lord for this.
