“Two Men Start Out” [Die Broke series principle number 2] (Luke 1:1-4) (Alcoholics Anonymous p.75)
The author starts rejecting folks;
The other climbs into Christ’s yoke
And sets about a greater task,
As word made flesh, whose life is passed –Needs someone to lay out once more
And ordered yarn to be a door
Secure and solid as the arch,
Like that through which the AA’s march.He’s “undertaken to draw up”
For other man, way more than “rough
Account” as he has tussled out
Of all his sources strewn about.“That one might know with certainty” –
That does not sound like “needs” to me;
“Outdated expectations” or
“Assumptions past” of use no more.To Broke, a prayer, or Ouija board;
A quiet pause, or shrink as Lord
Is all the same – “I’ll get you there;
Just tell me detailed word of where”.Who knows why others walk this path;
They’re all long-gone so can’t be asked;
These two (Die-Broke and Dr. Luke)
Both give the why’s of past pursuits.All this Luke gathered, sorted, wrote,
For just one man – official bloke;
Die-broke wrote tome for many folks –
Through printing press these words he spoke –Work for your-self; your needs attend,
Not others’ needs – your efforts bend
On your behalf, not man, nor God;
If prayer helps out, that’s good (though odd).I’ll get you there, no maxims now
Will guide you through this world somehow;
But Ah! My friend – now there’s the rub –
We’ve Kingdom-layer, not bully’s club.Christ said, “I watch what Father does,
And work as well – and that’s because
I am His Son, not just “the man”
And if you’ll be, you also can!God’s more than “The” – this all is His –
He made it – sustenance The biz;
“Expressed” in word to make all this,
Like mother’s milk’s “expressed” with kiss.So everything, including you,
“Expression” is of God – just fools
Think, “I can go my way, meet needs
I feel I have – myself I’ll please”.El Molinillo’s fins in spin
Is what’s in-store; once that begins –
A hamster wheel’s at best’s in swirl
’Round central pin, as pinwheel whirls.“Live rich” was first; “Work for your ‘self’ ”
That’s two – and ten, “seek freedom’s wealth”
So far that’s not impressive, Broke,
I much prefer what doctor wrote.For on God’s center-pin it’s still,
Above the swirl of daily swill;
Yet I can still engage from here
With world in need, with vision clear.Sure, maxims come and go with ease –
Those Giver-Finance words which please
Their ears in daily power plays;
On Kingdom-layer each person prays –Not incantations to pull down
Celestial slot-machines to drown
The passing flocks of quail we crave,
But asking Him through us to save –The folks who need to see, not blind;
The hungry in their spirits, minds;
The lost and lonely, crushed, despaired –
That with God’s help they’ll be repaired.For life is tough for all these days;
Temptation’s still to do what pays;
But that’s all fine and good as part –
With God in prayer – best place to start.Thanks Lord for this.
