“Deep Waters” (5-2-3) (Psalm 107: 2 3-32)

We’re built for deep waters, for that was His plan –
We’d push off from shallows, not bide on the sand;
That doesn’t mean “stupid”, but “cautious”, of course;
Lest we, when the squall comes, be filled with remorse.

Lord, we are in surf now, its foam and its roar
Are present around us, unlike life before;
We know in deep water, though wind whistles through,
There’s less of the pounding which surf and rocks do.

The quiet of harbor is winsome, ahead,
And calls us to hurry from surf as we’re led;
So guide us, protect us, free us to engage
Deep waters ’till harbors our fears can assuage.

But then, in the future, bid us once again,
To leave that safe harbor and overcome pain;
For pirate-ships call us to sail Spanish Main,
’Till we do our time out, obscure or in fame.

Thus challenge awaits us, despite how we fail
To live to potential in calm or in gale;
So be with us, Jesus, as we venture forth,
Up here where it’s frozen, in Canada’s North.

Thanks Lord for this.
