“The Smaller Ring”

To choose, as choose I must, the smaller ring today,
Is hard for me to do, in doing which I’d say,
It’s not because I do not see the broader scope;
But rather, stepping back, increases faith from hope.

I now believe that we must steward acts of love;
Complete such tasks assigned to us by Christ above;
Step into gaps; express God’s care for those who call
Upon us when their roads fall short, through Adam’s fall.

Temptation is, to press the boundaries of love –
So many things that could be “done for God above”;
He doesn’t ask that we engage each pressing need,
But wait in Him, and then respond as Spirit leads.

“Pull back”, I hear You say – “that task you see’s not yours –
You could engage that task, but doing so ignores
The body-life I build, through which My Spirit flows
To many more, when through My body, Spirit goes.

“So Stu, your task is bringing to the battle’s front
Fresh troops; let them engage each challenge they confront,
As others did for you – inspire them to observe
Their roads ahead, and leave behind a life absurd”.

O Lord, I thank You for Your words of life to me;
Help me inspire the folks around, that they might see
Potential here in circles ’round their trying lives;
Then focus down on tasks assigned, that others thrive.

Thanks Lord for this.
