“First Half ”
I woke up early – quiet here right now –
On busy streets it’s night, which will allow
Us time to hear the rustles, life which stirs,
That’s missed by us as life in daylight whirs.That’s like the pinwheel – centered round the pin,
With stick and bead, bent paper – wind begins
The whir and spin, like life with daily spin;
For struggled hearts on fan-blades whirl begins.The only place of stillness in this scene
Is on the pin-head – each Baptism means,
A burial of us when dead to whirl
As basis of our lives, as boys and girls.Still-center of our madly whirling world,
O Father-God today we pause, unfurl
The flag of who we are, and welcome in
This young boy’s life, pray stillness will begin –Within his heart – that he might grow to feel
His home in center-point, then spirit yield
To love far bigger than just life below;
Confirm as well – it’s centered-life he knows.As we move on this day in separate lives,
United in Your love, as husbands, wives,
As friends, community, in villiaged-world,
Help us help Nico center in this whirl.Help him internalize that quiet pin
Of centeredness, that he might enter in
The rough and tumble of uncertain days,
With centered-quiet in life’s whirling ways.Amen – (so be it) –
Thanks Lord for this.
