“Each Day’s Re-Start”

Said to myself two days ago, “It’s dark –
I wonder what it’s like each night to start
The darkness when it’s suppertime each day –
Half day, half night, and live my life that way?”

I like the longer days myself, it seems –
Photography is what the daylight means;
The day’s like life – I sleep one third away;
But dawn means I can make my photo play.

Lord, as I look around this sorry mess,
I realize we’ve moved beyond finesse
Into a world where it’s no longer fun;
But “Day for night” need not by us be done –

For night’s around and closes on this camp,
As embers glow and evening air grows damp;
Hot chocolate and some cookies ’fore we bed;
Asleep, once grateful prayers by us are said.

But, like ’round here when winter closes in,
We wake to darkness, in the dark begin
Again to make ends meet – it’s harder now
To do life’s simple things, yet hope somehow –

That life will work despite the seeming dark,
As we step forward, on our tasks embark;
“Lord, be with us today”, our daily prayer;
Breathe deeply once again fresh morning air.

Thanks Lord for this.
