“The Three Foot Circle”

Our trip down south one question has –
That three-foot circle – does it fit
For packing up the things I need?
Depends on purpose quite a bit –

If poetry is what I’ll do,
Take paper, pen, and focus books
On which I’ll make reflective poems,
Extracting concepts which then look –

A bit like each original,
Admixed with how it latches in
To concepts I’ve already heard,
Or some new line of thought begin.

Some people think that end result
Is what I write each poem for;
It’s not – the process makes a map
Of thought deep-held plus something more –

It lets me play with concepts now;
Play “Mix-and-match”, wide ranging arcs
Of thought – I see my mind conceive,
For on my sleeve bides not my heart.

Lord, poetry reflects all this,
But that’s a process – others lie
Within the range of what I do
As I explore each lace and tie.

But it is not itself the ring –
Some poet-bards fresh thought-forms write
As what they do down at their core;
I do as well, but that’s too tight –

For me – I am encourager;
I use resource to bolster up
Some bloke, to help him on his way
(Or her), but most when things are tough.

Through me the Holy Spirit works;
“Discerning spirits” is the phrase –
I ask a lot of questions, search
For roadblocks – blow – for better days.

The larger context of my task
Is “Boundary-crossing” – giver group –
Apostle is the term for that –
Decode – release – through gospel route.

I use five tools or processes;
Five things God does through me this way;
Five things I am both by and large;
Three larger parts through me God plays.

What’s three-foot-ring of what I do?
Encourage – bring resource to bear,
To move you down the road my friend,
Through which God shows his fervent care.

So Lord, what should I pack to do?
What tools and toys would help the most?
“Eight hours a day as heaven’s kiss,
Will quite suffice on Rica’s coast.

Thanks Lord for this.
