“What Is?” (Acts 8:26-40)

“Just what is an Apostle, Stu?”
A missionary – just like you
And Paul and Linda – let me see –
A “Boundary crosser” – that’s the key.

“They work out there just like right here” –
Decode a culture making clear
The gospel-aspects missed first-round;
For me a question quite profound –

I was an adult TCK
From “Echoland”, with “Creenglish” way
Of doing life, there in between
Two culture’s vast (though quite unseen).

And then I saw it – clear and still –
“Apostle, Stu, go, if you will
To Giver-land, as TCK;
That’s what you do here anyway.”

As now I look around this town,
New-comers here to settle down
And make a life here, if you please,
So mission-work is now a breeze.

Like Philip by that roadside coach,
Who loped along, God said, “Approach –
Explain to him; he’ll understand,
Then he’ll return to native land.”

Two folks I know do that as well –
They work on campus, story tell
Of Jesus – when folks go back home,
They’ve changed, for now they Christ have known.

“Apostle” lacks the “baggage” part,
For “Missionary” got its start
When Britts created Empire vast
Apostleship’s not that way cast.

So let’s re-start, fulfill the role
Christ gave to us ’till Kingdom’s full;
Lord, take away our sinful past –
Heal sight within to harvest vast.

Thanks Lord for this.
