“I Used To Play”  [Reflections On Book -  The Book Of Revelation "J" (Revelation 14:19-20)]  (Matt. 18:3-5; Philippians 2:5-11)

I used to play at politics,
Could hit and run like lightning – quick
To seize the day; could knife some dude
So quiet-like, while giving food.

It worked – a while at least, and then,
I saw the carnage later, when
The dead and wounded on the field
Said, “Hold – enough – to you I yield”.

That’s when I understood our Lord –
“Destroys community when sword
Is used to strive, to seek, to find
A way for self through use of mind.

“I only do what Father does,”
Christ said, and He would know because,
“Equality with God, foresworn,
He humbled self” – now we’ve been warned.

As people fell beneath my boots
And I rose up in cleric’s suit,
I came across some folks quite deep –
Contented, kneeling at Christ’s feet.

One introduced me to The Text,
And Watchman Nee – one of the best –
Said, “Read him slowly; plug it in;
And Spirit-walk will soon begin”.

So I swore off defense of self;
Defended others; scoffed at wealth;
Not that it doesn’t help, it does,
But it’s not first, but next, because –

It’s just a tool, as I am too –
A tool of God – in that, a fool;
But as I yield to Spirit’s way,
It’s miracles I see each day.

“Lamb’s politics?” He showed us how –
“Just humble selves, and thus allow
The other folks to enter in
God’s Kingdom-layer, step out of sin.

“Abide in me, and I in you;
That’s how I work God’s will – it’s new
To you, of course – let go, relax;
It’s not a race – here are the facts –

“First, ‘Down is up’; ‘You win, I lose’;
‘In letting go, it’s life I choose’;
‘In heaven you can build a stash,
Untouchable, unlike your cash’.”

It’s not I learned it at one time,
But rather, each step ’cross that line
Gave life – more geometrically
Than arithmetic – new to me.

So now, the current ways of “church”
I used to do, with soul besmirched;
I may not be where I will be,
But better life enriches me.

Thanks Lord for this.
