“The Call Plus Fifty Years”  [Reflections On Book The Book Of Revelation "G" (1John 1:1-4; Rev. 1:1-2)] (1 Peter 2:9-11; Mk 1:14-20; Neh.9:27b)

“Are you sleeping? Are you sleeping?
Brother John, Brother John –
Morning bells are ringing; morning bells are ringing;
Ding Dang Don; Ding Dang Don.”

******

So saying we in the days of yore,
When, as a child we asked for more
Of everything, then in our beds
Lay down to sleep – prayed not as dead.

But here in Peter’s tome we see
He was, with brother Andrew, freed
From shadowed-living, as are all
Like James and John – stuck at some wall.

What happened on the beach that day?
What meaning was conveyed that way,
When Jesus called them – “Come along;
As ‘Fishing-men’ to me belong”?

To me it means, “I’ll get you there –
I know your hearts; once you’re prepared,
You’ll catch some men for Kingdom-layer;
God answers prayer – I’ll get you there.”

To covet insight for the rest
Is prayer God honors, for the best
He wishes for mankind at large –
Apostle-task, for which we’re charged.

Not, “Go”; but “Having gone” into
The world for reasons known to you,
Disciple (if you need a plan
Use mine, with which I trained you, man).

So Peter died in Rome, like Paul;
And John lived longer than them all;
They’d lived and worked three years with Him
From beach-scene where Christ said, “Begin”.

Both wrote into distressing times;
Enlightened now, with words sublime
Shared then what folks would later see –
Just like those four, like you and me.

Thanks Lord for this.
