“Shut Up, Stu!”  (Matt. 2:12)

Lord, now I see, it’s stopping power
That stops us cold at launching hour;
“ ’Nuff Herod in each one of us
To kill wee Jesus; light goes ‘snuff’–

If we could get the info now
’Bout where He sleeps, we could somehow
Wipe out such baby projects here,
So road for ‘Me’ is thus kept clear.”

So said some writer some years back;
I laughed when read – took view I lacked;
When all growed up, I mentioned it
(“Queen Baby-Killer” took a fit!)

So too with Herod, story goes –
Wiped out a crop of kids – who knows
If all were killed – like Vietnam,
The draft’s by birth date – Uncle Sam –

Took all one day, and then the next,
Across the board, mixed very best
With those whose lives were trashed somehow
To kill for him, as rules allow.

But live for him? How ’bout the same –
‘Called up’ to have Sam ease the pain –
“Small-business goals?” A helping hand;
“Raise kids no rats?” I under-stand.

Does no-one model life done right?
Well, no – ’cause long before that fight,
King Herod has his day in court –
Three wise men come – give full report.

Thanks Lord for this.
