“An Open Door”  (John 15:12-13)

Now, can he get to second base?
Or will he fade there in his place?
That is the part that’s open now –
How much will both those teams allow?

For now it’s steal, and deke, and run;
Read pitcher, catcher; have some fun;
Street-knowledge – background – helps along,
For baseball is the giver’s song.

But let’s say “no” – they box him in –
Pull strings; and “throw the game” to “win”;
He’s got four years to make his point;
By then some more will see – anoint –

His words and actions with assent;
Begrudgingly praise route he went;
But change? I doubt that will take place,
Though compromise could make some space –

For everyone, the rich and poor,
First Nations folks and those much newer;
What’s up is “World-correction-time;
Another’s turn – who’s next in line?”

For politics, “persuasion” is;
It’s framework for the world of biz;
A nasty world is where we live;
Too soon? No, I just think there is –

A chance to act ahead of time,
Before our nations hit the slime
From which God raised the human race,
And all of life, to present place.

We chose, as Adam’s story tells;
God said, “Don’t take that road to hell;
But if you must, I’ll bide with you –
When you wake up, do as I do.”

Thanks Lord for this.
