“Open The Eyes Of My Heart”   [Reflections On Book The The Book Of Revelation "B" Rev. 1:1-11 (Matt.23:37-38; Chap.11)]

“Write on a scroll the things you see, friend John,
Send it to churches seven, for there upon
That parchment rolled up for revealing-time
Is hint of what’s ahead from view that’s Mine.

“For like an ant which walks across the floor,
I see what’s up ahead, what’s gone before
Within the larger circle, in which freedom reigns;
Some choice the ant can make, but just the same –

“It cannot change the facts of present life;
It can’t change actions of destroying might;
It cannot be where it someday might be,
If window-sun and quiet times it sees.

“Sometimes it’s short-term which holds greater risk;
Sometimes it’s a midterm with its longer list;
Sometimes it’s movements slow like hands on clock
Which bring disaster home with quake that rocks.

“So, write your tome upon that parchment, John,
And lay it out – a life that soon is gone;
For Adam died at point of apple feast –
Just falling over now – or soon, at least.

“I mentioned at the first what lay in store
If he were to proceed to apple core –
The journey would be rough, too small his mind
To calculate the evil in his time.

“But, hey – he still has choice, there in the sun,
As time ekes out, and he his errand runs;
It’s just that words you write could now inform
His daily choices – like a shout that warns”.

Lord, as I contemplate the books You wrote
Through me; poetic words through which You spoke –
Are speaking still – I’m thinking, “What of this?
What churches need to feel that heaven’s kiss?

“Augmented text” is what I’m hearing now –
“Both poetry and prose – both ways allowed;
As here with John’s quite puzzling poetry –
There’s food a’plenty for an eye which sees.

“For if a person lacks internal thirst,
Enjoys his life (or hers), survives the worst
That life can throw his way, there is no way
That they can hear Me through the words you say.

So make them clear, or shroud in mystery;
Augment with photographs the thoughts from Me;
Like children playing in the marketplace,
They cannot hear the truth, when truth they face.

“Here, let me show you just a bit of that –
Take seven churches – typical, in fact;
To what degree will each have open minds
To any word they hear of deeper kind?”

“John lists them there, and then depicts their ways
Of doing life – prefacing what he says
With imagery, like deeper lines from Yeats –
Your heads now spin, no matter what your taste.”

So what I’m hearing, Lord, is “Look within
Your heart, friend Stu, assess the shape you’re in;
To what degree is open heart there found,
As you, in light of this, take look around.”

Thanks Lord for this.
